A U.S. Army sergeant accused of firing on members of his supply unit at Fort Stewart on August 6 has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault, military officials said Tuesday.
The suspect, Sgt. Quornelius Radford, 28, also faces one count of domestic violence. The Army’s Office of Special Trial Counsel prosecuting Radford explained that the domestic violence charge “exists because one of the victims was the accused’s intimate partner.”
The shooting, which took place late morning inside the unit’s workspace, ended when soldiers tackled and disarmed Radford. Brig. Gen. John Lubas said all five injured soldiers are expected to recover. Their names have not been released.
Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the incident.
On Aug. 7, Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll presented medals to soldiers who subdued the suspect and aided the wounded. The soldiers were identified as 1st Sgt. Joshua Arnold, Master Sgt. Justin Thomas, Staff Sgt. Melissa Taylor, Staff Sgt. Robert Pacheco, Sgt. Eve Rodarte, and Sgt. Aaron Turner.

Radford, who remains in pretrial confinement, is scheduled for pretrial proceedings to assess whether sufficient evidence exists for him to proceed to a court-martial, according to reports.
