The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) apprehended a 32-year-old female resident of Odessa, identified as an agent of the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU), for her alleged involvement in sabotage activities in the region.
According to SBU, the suspect was remotely recruited by a GRU special operations officer in 2024. Upon investigation, authorities have found that the agent, whose identity was not disclosed, was involved in setting fire to energy facilities of Ukrzaliznytsia and preparing hideouts with firearms and components for explosives.

“The traitor set fire to a relay cabinet of a signaling system and a transformer substation on a local railway line,” SBU’s statement reads. “Later, the agent received a new task — to establish a hideout near the port with components for a homemade explosive device (HED).”
To fulfill this mission, the suspect reportedly traveled to Dnipro, where she retrieved explosive materials concealed in a cigarette pack.
Upon returning to Odesa, the suspect attempted to place a component for the HED in a pre-arranged cache near the port infrastructure. At that moment, SBU officers caught the agent in the act and confiscated part of the explosive device.
A search of the suspect’s belongings led to the discovery of a mobile phone containing evidence of her communications with the Russian GRU.
The detainee is currently in custody and faces charges that could result in life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
According to SBU, the recent operation was conducted with procedural oversight from the regional prosecutor’s office.
