A senior officer in Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), Colonel Ivan Voronych, was shot dead Thursday morning in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district, authorities said.
Sources told Ukrainska Pravda that an unidentified individual approached Voronych at around 9 a.m. local time and shot him five times with a pistol before fleeing.
Surveillance footage shows a masked gunman approaching Voronych in a residential parking lot and firing several shots with a silenced handgun before fleeing on foot.

The SBU and National Police have opened an investigation into the incident.
“The Security Service and the National Police are taking comprehensive measures to clarify all the circumstances of the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice,” the SBU said in a statement.
Voronych served in the SBU’s special operations division, which has played a prominent role in Ukraine’s campaign against Russian targets, including deep strikes on Russian territory.
Operations linked to the agency include strikes on strategic bombers, the bombing of the Kerch Bridge, and the assassination of a Russian general in Moscow using an explosive device concealed in a scooter.
No group has claimed responsibility for the latest attack, and Russian officials have not issued any statements.
The attack follows the killing of a Russian general in a car bombing outside Moscow in April.
