The U.S. Coast Guard has welcomed the $24.6 billion in funding authorized under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed into law by President Donald Trump last week, as the largest single investment in the service’s history.
In a press release, the Coast Guard said key provisions of the law include $4.4 billion for shore infrastructure, training facilities, and homeports, and $4.3 billion for Polar Security Cutters to extend U.S. presence in the Arctic.
The funding also includes $2.3 billion for MH-60 helicopters; $2.2 billion for depot-level maintenance to sustain readiness; $1.1 billion for new HC-130J aircraft and simulators; and $1 billion for Fast Response Cutters.
Overall, the Coast Guard said the funding will allow the service to procure 17 new icebreakers, 21 cutters, more than 40 MH-60 helicopters, and six HC-130J aircraft, among other critical assets.
“This historic investment marks a new era for the Coast Guard,” said Coast Guard Acting Commandant Adm. Kevin Lunday. “It reflects the strong support of the American people and empowers us to restore our Service and prepare for the challenges of today and tomorrow.”
The $24.6 billion investment is nearly double the Coast Guard’s typical annual budget and comes on top of the $14.4 billion the Trump administration has requested for the service in its fiscal year 2026 budget proposal.
