The U.S. Navy has relieved Capt. Geoffry Patterson, the commander of the USS Georgia’s Blue Crew, following an arrest for driving under the influence (DUI) and other charges. This decision, announced on January 12, 2024, comes after Patterson was arrested by the St. Marys Police Department on January 8 and released the next day on bond. The Navy cited a “loss of confidence in his ability to command” as the reason for his dismissal.
Patterson, who assumed command of the USS Georgia’s Blue Crew in May 2022, has a long history with the Navy, originally joining as an enlisted sailor.
