Two close aides to Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada were shot and killed Tuesday morning near a metro station in the central Moderna neighborhood.
Ximena Guzmán, the mayor’s personal secretary, and José Muñoz, a senior adviser, were killed just after 7 a.m. as they prepared to travel to work.
Surveillance video shows a man wearing a white jacket and motorcycle helmet firing at least 12 shots at the victims inside their vehicle before fleeing on foot.

Brugada described the killing as a “direct attack.” While the motive remains under investigation, Brugada vowed that her administration would “continue its relentless fight against insecurity.”
President Claudia Sheinbaum, a political ally of Brugada, condemned the killings. “There will be no impunity,” she said in a press briefing.
In a post on X, Omar García Harfuch, national security minister and former city police chief, said his office will assist with the investigation. “We won’t let this cowardly act go unpunished,” he said.
On the same day as Tuesday’s attack, seven people were killed in a shooting in Guanajuato. Last week, a mayoral candidate and three supporters were killed in Veracruz. Other officials have been murdered in recent months across Jalisco, Guerrero, and elsewhere.
