A Russian soldier from Yakutia, in the Republic of Sakha, has gained attention for his effective anti-drone skills during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The soldier, who reportedly goes by the callsign “Half a Kilo,” is part of the 1461st Motorized Rifle Regiment, also known as the “Sedoy” Regiment. This unit has specialized in training its troops in anti-drone warfare, equipping them with both small arms and electronic measures to counter the increasing threat posed by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the battlefield.
“Half a Kilo” recently demonstrated his skills when he successfully shot down two First-Person View (FPV) drones, commonly used for reconnaissance and attack missions, with a few well-placed shots from his rifle. According to reports, the soldier first became aware of the drone’s presence after hearing a nearby cluster munition detonate, a sound that likely indicated the drone’s targeting efforts.Â
