About 140 U.S. service members have been injured during the ongoing war with Iran, the Pentagon confirmed Tuesday.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said the majority of the injuries were minor and that 108 service members have already returned to duty.
He added that eight service members are still listed as severely injured and are “receiving the highest level of medical care.”
On Monday, U.S. authorities reported that a U.S. National Guard soldier died in Kuwait on March 6 during a medical emergency, bringing the total number of U.S. military deaths in the ongoing conflict with Iran to eight.
The announcement comes as the Trump administration offers differing assessments of the conflict’s trajectory. Now in its second week, the war has seen the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and widespread strikes on Tehran’s nuclear and missile infrastructure.
Trump told CBS News on Monday that “the war is very complete.” However, hours later, War Secretary Pete Hegseth said the war would end on “our timeline” and that the U.S. would not stop until “the enemy is totally and decisively defeated.”
On Tuesday, U.S.-Israeli forces carried out the most intense strikes against Iran since the start of the war.
“Today will be, yet again, our most intense day of strikes inside Iran,” Hegseth said during a press briefing today at the Pentagon briefing. “The most fighters, the most bombers, the most strikes; intelligence more refined and better than ever. So, that’s on one hand. On the other hand, the last 24 hours have seen Iran fire the lowest number of missiles they’ve been capable of firing yet.”
