The footage is part of a broader Ukrainian offensive that began on August 6, 2024, in the Kursk region, during which Ukrainian forces have gained control over more than 1,000 square kilometers of territory and numerous settlements. The SSO video highlights the precision and effectiveness of these special operations, emphasizing the use of ambushes, direct assaults, and artillery targeting as key tactics in disrupting and eliminating enemy forces on Russian soil.
In response to the successful advances, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the establishment of a military commandant’s office in the newly controlled areas of the Kursk region, appointing Major General Eduard Moskaliov as its head. This move underscores Ukraine’s intent to consolidate its gains and manage the occupied territories effectively.
Reports suggest that Ukrainian forces have also captured approximately 2,000 Russian soldiers during these operations, a significant blow to the Russian military presence in the region. Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) note that Ukraine’s operations in Kursk demonstrate the effectiveness of maneuver warfare, allowing Ukrainian forces to overcome Russian advantages in manpower and material.
