The FBI has arrested five people in connection with an alleged plot to attack President Donald Trump’s UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House, federal authorities said.
According to court documents, the group planned to stage a “demonstration” on the north side of the White House before deploying drones “laden with unspecified explosive devices which would detonate over the north side of the UFC arena.”
Potential targets of the attack reportedly included Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, billionaire Elon Musk and several members of Congress.
The Department of Justice identified the suspects as Tycen Proper of Ohio, Daniel Eskridge of Missouri, Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez of Nebraska, and Bryan Omar Roa and Michael Alan Thomas of California.
All suspects face conspiracy-related charges, while Proper, 19, faces additional counts including attempted murder of any officer or employee of the U.S., possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and receipt or transfer of a firearm used to commit a felony.
According to a justice department statement, Proper admitted helping plan the attack and told investigators the group intended to detonate drones above the event before directing fleeing crowds toward pre-positioned shooters.
“Proper allegedly amassed firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and tactical gear at his home in Ohio, and he identified potential targets, including multiple members of Congress,” the statement reads.
Authorities said investigators recovered high-powered firearms during the arrests and uncovered encrypted text messages from roughly 20 participants expressing grievances over issues including U.S. support for Israel, the handling of files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and data center development.
They also found messages in which participants shared detailed maps and aerial photographs of the area and discussed the need for a “safe house” and escape routes following the intended attack.
FBI Director Kash Patel said authorities learned of a potential threat on June 10 and launched a multi-state operation that led to arrests in Ohio, Missouri, Nebraska and California.
“Thanks to the rapid action of the FBI, our partners, and the Department of Justice in a multi-state operation, multiple individuals are now in custody and allegedly planned attacks were stopped cold,” Patel said.
The arrests come amid heightened concerns about political violence in the U.S. and follow several previous threats targeting Trump and other public officials.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit in Canada, Trump said he had not been briefed on the alleged plot.
