Ukrainian forces successfully captured a Russian T-72 tank, which was equipped with advanced electronic warfare systems intended to jam Ukrainian drones. The operation took place near Terny in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region, an area currently under intense conflict due to ongoing hostilities between Ukrainian and Russian forces.
The captured tank, identified as a T-72B3M, first used in 2017, featured multiple electronic warfare systems designed to protect it from drone attacks. Despite these capabilities, Ukrainian drone operators were able to strike the tank with a drone equipped with an autonomous guidance system. The attack did not severely damage the tank but led to the Russian crew abandoning the vehicle.

Following the abandonment, the 3rd Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian army took on the task of retrieving the tank. Ukrainian combat engineers first assessed the tank’s condition at night, determining that while the tank’s turret was jammed, its engine appeared functional.
The operation was successful, and the Ukrainian forces were able to drive the tank back to their territory.
