Megan Black, the wife of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Gordon Black, described a disturbing incident involving her husband during his service in South Korea. Megan shared that during a video call intended for their 6-year-old daughter, a violent altercation broke out between Black and his Russian girlfriend. According to Megan, the confrontation escalated to the point where his girlfriend allegedly stabbed him, resulting in visible injuries. This incident was unfortunately witnessed by their young daughter, causing her distress.
Staff Sergeant Black, who was stationed at Camp Humphreys outside Seoul, subsequently traveled to Russia, where his situation took a grave turn. On May 2, Black was arrested in Vladivostok, a city in Russia’s far east, under accusations of theft. Russian authorities have placed him in pre-trial confinement, alleging that he caused significant damage to a citizen through theft. This accusation is linked to his relationship with a Russian woman, identified in numerous TikTok videos as Aleksandra Vashchuk, who referred to Black as her “husband” and posted various snippets of their life together.
Prior to his arrest, Black and Vashchuk appeared together in multiple social media posts, highlighting their time in South Korea. Notably, Vashchuk’s videos feature Black in his military uniform, and in one particular video, he discusses U.S.-Russian relations.
This case has attracted significant attention due to the current political tensions between the U.S. and Russia, with concerns that Black’s arrest might be politically motivated. The U.S. State Department, along with other agencies, is actively involved, ensuring that Black receives necessary legal and consular support. This incident is part of a broader context where several Americans are detained in Russia under contentious circumstances, including journalist Evan Gershkovich and former Marine Paul Whelan.
