The U.S. Army and Marine Corps have set up recruitment booths at Anime NYC, a large anime convention held in Manhattan’s Javits Center. The Marine Corps’ booth features an interactive “Battle Dome,” while the Army’s booth includes a simpler setup with cosplayers. These military branches, alongside the FBI, are using the convention as a platform for recruitment, a strategy reflecting the Department of Defense’s ongoing efforts to fill ranks, even as they adapt to modern interests like video games and anime culture.

Key Points

  1. Military Presence at Anime Convention: The U.S. Army and Marine Corps are present at Anime NYC for recruitment purposes, showcasing their booths among thousands of anime enthusiasts.
  2. Interactive Marine Corps Booth: The Marine Corps’ booth is more elaborate, featuring an interactive “Battle Dome” where attendees can try physical activities like push-ups and pull-ups.
  3. Army’s Recruitment Approach: The Army’s booth, while simpler, attracts attention with cosplayers and engages with the convention attendees.
  4. Location and Strategy: The military booths are strategically located near the video game section of the convention, aligning with the military’s increasing use of video game technology.
  5. Broader Recruitment Efforts: This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Department of Defense to recruit at various conventions and adapt to popular culture to address recruitment challenges.
