Three people were shot and killed at a hair salon in central Uppsala, Sweden, on Tuesday, according to police.
The attack occurred shortly after 5 p.m. local time near Vaksala Square. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing people fleeing the area in panic.
“I heard five to six shots,” a witness who lives near the crime scene told Swedish new outlet Aftonbladet.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims. Police said the suspect fled the scene on an electric scooter and is still at large. It remains unclear whether more than one person was involved in the shooting.
Following the incident, authorities cordoned off a large area and launched a search operation. A police helicopter assisted in the manhunt. Trains in and out of Uppsala were temporarily halted to prevent the suspect’s escape, but service later resumed.

The shooting happened one day before the city’s Walpurgis celebration, a spring festival that attracts large crowds. Police acknowledged public concern but said they believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat.
Sweden has experienced a rise in gun violence in recent years, prompting the government to push for stricter gun control measures. In February, a shooting at an adult education center in Örebro left 11 dead.
