Suspected Sunni Muslim militants from the Jaish al-Adl group launched attacks on Iran’s Revolutionary Guards headquarters in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, according to state media reports. The incidents occurred overnight in the towns of Chabahar and Rask, leading to the deaths of at least 11 Iranian security force members and 16 militants. Deputy Interior Minister Majid Mirahmadi confirmed that the militants were unsuccessful in their attempt to seize the headquarters in both towns.

In addition to the fatalities, ten other security officers were reported injured during the clashes in this impoverished region, which is predominantly Sunni Muslim. The Jaish al-Adl group, claiming to seek greater rights and better living conditions for the ethnic minority Baluchis in Shi’ite-dominated Iran, has been responsible for several attacks in recent years on Iranian security forces in the province.

The area, bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan, has been a hotspot for frequent clashes not only with militants but also with drug traffickers, given its significance as a key transit route for narcotics smuggled from Afghanistan.
