Staff Sgt. Tristen Wright, a 28-year-old airman assigned to the 27th Special Operations Logistics Readiness Squadron, died on August 15th in a non-combat-related incident while deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. The incident occurred at an undisclosed location within the U.S. Central Command area of operations, and the circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation by the U.S. Air Force.
Wright, originally from Palm Bay, Florida, was found unresponsive at his residence on deployment and was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical officials. The Air Force has not disclosed further details about the cause of death but has confirmed that it was not related to combat.
Having enlisted in the Air Force in August 2016, Wright served as a materiel management specialist and had been with the 27th Special Operations Logistics Readiness Squadron at Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico, since 2019. Prior to this assignment, he served at Kadena Air Base in Japan with the 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron.
During his service, Wright earned several military decorations, including the U.S. Air and Space Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters and “C” devices, and the Global War on Terrorism Medal. His career included deployments supporting both Operation Resolute Support and Operation Inherent Resolve.
Col. Robert Johnston, the 27th Special Operations Wing commander, and Maj. Brent Escay, the commander of Wright’s squadron, both expressed their condolences, highlighting Wright’s positive influence within his unit and the broader community.
