The strike, which also wounded 19 people, occurred around 10:40 a.m. local time in the Donetsk region. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the area was hit by a Russian glide bomb.
Horrendous Russian strike today on the village of Yarova in Donetsk region. A glide bomb hit civilians as they were collecting pensions. As of now, at least 24 killed, 19 wounded. Zelenskyy condemned the attack as a deliberate strike on civilians. “Directly on people. Ordinary civilians. At the very moment when pensions were being disbursed,” he said in a post on X. He urged the United States, Europe, and the G-20 to respond with stronger measures against Moscow.
Yarova, located north of Slovyansk, lies on a railway line between Lyman and Izium and sits just six kilometers from Novoselivka, where Russian troops are advancing.
The attack is among the deadliest in recent weeks. Ukraine’s emergency service also reported three deaths from other shelling in Donetsk on Tuesday.
Russia has not commented on the Yarova strike and continues to deny targeting civilians.
