Russia’s Defense Ministry recently posted a video featuring a Su-34 fighter jet launching a FAB-3000 glide bomb, weighing approximately 3,000 kilograms, onto a target within Ukrainian territory. The video, released on July 14, was accompanied by claims that the bomb was deployed against positions held by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In the footage, a Russian pilot emphasized the bomb’s destructive capability, stating, “it is difficult to imagine a target that would not be destroyed by an aerial bomb of this size.” The Ministry highlighted the bomb’s combat power as a significant asset in their military arsenal.
The FAB-3000, upgraded with a universal planning and correction module (UMPK), features wings that extend upon release and a satellite navigation system for enhanced accuracy. This technological upgrade allows for more precise targeting and increased range, representing a notable advancement in Russia’s aerial warfare capabilities.
Previously, on June 20, a pro-Kremlin blogger with connections to the Russian Air Force shared footage of what was claimed to be the first combat use of a FAB-3000 M-54 bomb in Lyptsi, Kharkiv Oblast. The footage marked the introduction of these powerful bombs into the battlefield.
Historical context includes an earlier incident on May 5, when Kharkiv Oblast police reported that Russian forces used a FAB-1500 bomb, another heavy aerial munition, in the Kupiansk district. This attack resulted in the death of an 88-year-old woman and injured a 34-year-old man.
