Russian forces have launched a significant aerial assault on Ukraine’s power infrastructure, marking the fourth major attack on these facilities since late March. The latest series of strikes utilized ballistic and cruise missiles launched from Russian strategic bombers based in the Arctic Circle. DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private electricity provider, reported substantial damage to four of its six thermal power plants due to these strikes. Additionally, efforts were underway to extinguish fires caused by the missile hits in the western Ukrainian regions of Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk.
In response to these attacks, Ukrainian defense systems managed to intercept 21 out of 34 missiles aimed at their territory. Moreover, Ukraine has launched its own counterattacks using long-range drones targeting strategic locations within Russia. Notably, the Ilsky and Slavyansk oil refineries in Russia’s Krasnodar region were hit, causing fires and leading to the partial shutdown of the Slavyansk refinery. These actions are part of a broader Ukrainian strategy to disrupt the Russian economy and military capabilities by striking at critical infrastructure.

On the humanitarian front, a missile strike in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv damaged a hospital housing 60 patients, resulting in injuries and further infrastructure damage. This incident underscores the widening impact of the conflict on civilian areas and non-combatant facilities.
Internationally, the conflict continues to draw significant global attention. The United States recently passed a substantial military aid package for Ukraine, totaling $60 billion, aiming to bolster Ukraine’s defensive capabilities. This package includes advanced systems like Patriot air defense missiles, which are expected to enhance Ukraine’s ability to defend against ongoing Russian aerial assaults.
