Polish director Patryk Vega, under the pseudonym Besaleel, has harnessed AI-generated deepfake technology to create an English-language film titled “Putin,” casting the Russian president in an unorthodox narrative. This film aims to dissect and present Putin’s life story, from his troubled childhood to his role in contemporary geopolitical conflicts, through the lens of deepfake technology. By superimposing Putin’s face onto an actor, Vega seeks to expose the Russian leader’s psyche and critique his authoritarian governance.
