Recent photos and videos suggest that the J-35, China’s next-generation carrier-based stealth fighter, may have entered limited production and could already be in early operational use with the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN).
In a recent state-run CCTV broadcast, two J-35 stealth fighter jets were spotted inside a hangar at Shenyang Aircraft Corporation. The jets appeared in the background while the presenter showcased the J-15T, an upgraded 4.5-generation catapult-launched fighter.
The appearance was followed by photos of two J-35s flying in close formation, displaying construction numbers “0011” and “0012” along with PLAN markings.
Wow … as it seems, also the PLAN Naval Aviation has finally revealed its first two operational (?) J-35 fighters.

Analysts believe these details are part of a deliberate reveal, signaling the aircraft’s move beyond prototype status.
According to Army Recognition, the J-35, is expected to become the primary fighter for the Fujian, China’s next-generation aircraft carrier. The Fujian is equipped with electromagnetic catapult launch systems, a capability currently found only on U.S. Navy carriers.
“The new fighter incorporates multiple key design features for carrier use, including reinforced landing gear, folding wingtips for tighter carrier storage, and a tailhook system for arrested landings. Its low-observable airframe, optimized engine inlets, and embedded sensors make it a true fifth-generation platform, bridging the technology gap with the US Navy’s F-35C,” Army Recognition notes.
Meanwhile, The War Zone reported that the J-35 is rumored to make its public debut in September during a large-scale event marking the 80th anniversary of Japan’s defeat in World War II.
