In a Telegram post, Saratov Governor Roman Busargin confirmed that “one of the industrial enterprises” was damaged and the fatality occurred when a drone fell in a residential courtyard.
The refinery, about 500 kilometers (311 miles) from Ukraine’s border, sits in a region that also hosts the Engels-2 air base and other energy facilities.
The Ukrainian military’s General Staff later said the Saratov Oil Refinery was the intended target of the operation carried out by its unmanned systems forces.
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, its forces destroyed 121 Ukrainian drones overnight, including eight over Saratov, though it did not confirm damage to the refinery.
The Saratov attack coincided with strikes in Lipetsk and Voronezh, along with an attack on a Shahed drone storage facility in Tatarstan, according to local reports.
