In response to the abduction of nearly 300 students by armed bandits in Kaduna state, Nigeria, police have announced the establishment of a new base and the deployment of special forces to the remote village of Kuriga. The initiative, revealed by Nigerian Police Chief Kayode Egbetokun during a meeting with Kaduna Governor Uba Sani, aims to bolster residents’ confidence in their security and assist in the ongoing search for the abducted students.
The new measures include:
- Creation of a police base in Kuriga with the commencement of special forces deployment.
- Assurance from authorities on efforts to secure the release of the abducted individuals.
- Support from Kaduna’s Governor Sani, expressing confidence in the police’s ability to ensure the safe return of the school children.
This development is part of a broader effort to address insecurity and the challenge of abductions in Nigeria, including President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” initiative and discussions on decentralizing the police force.
