Starting January 1, 2024, the Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account benefit will be available to active duty military personnel and Active Guard Reserve members on Title 10 orders. While the initial enrollment deadline for this benefit was December 11, 2023, service members can still enroll or make changes due to qualifying life events such as the birth or adoption of a child. This flexible spending account allows service members to use pre-tax deductions from their paychecks to cover child care and dependent care expenses, including preschool, summer day camps, and before- or after-school programs, up to $5,000 in 2024. However, it’s important to meet deadlines for incurring expenses and submitting claims to avoid forfeiting any unused funds in the account after April 30, 2025.
