In a recent press briefing, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova conveyed doubts about the Islamic State’s capability to execute the deadly attack on a Moscow concert hall, killing at least 140 individuals last Friday. Russian officials have been questioning Western intelligence claims attributing the attack to IS, despite the group’s admission. The narrative from Russia insinuates a potential involvement by Ukraine and Western countries, specifically the United States and the United Kingdom, though no details or evidence have been shared.
Russian state investigators announced plans to examine allegations against the U.S. and other Western countries concerning their supposed roles in orchestrating terrorist activities against Russia. This announcement came after the director of Russia’s FSB security agency shifted blame towards Ukraine, the U.S., and the UK in the concert hall attack. In response, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron labeled Russia’s accusations as baseless. Concurrently, both Washington and Paris have affirmed through intelligence assessments that the Islamic State was indeed responsible for the Moscow attack.
