US authorities dispute Kremlin charges of coordinating drone attacks with Ukraine in Moscow, while the source of the incident remains unknown and uninvestigated.

US officials have denied Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov’s accusation that the United States coordinated drone attacks on Moscow with Ukraine. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby and Defense Department spokesperson Lt. Col. Garron Garn both emphasized that the US had no involvement in the Wednesday morning attack. The Biden administration still has no leading theory on who was behind the drone attack, and the source of the attack is not a priority for investigation. Peskov’s accusations came after two drones struck Moscow in what Russia immediately characterized as an assassination attempt on Russian President Vladimir Putin by Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denied the accusation, and US officials said they had no advanced knowledge of the attacks. During a surprise trip to the Netherlands, Zelenskyy reiterated his plea for a special tribunal to hold Putin accountable for war crimes.
