Israel has floated a proposal to offer safe passage to Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar if all remaining hostages held in Gaza are released. Gal Hirsch, Israel’s point person on hostage negotiations, revealed that the deal would allow Sinwar, along with his family and associates, to leave Gaza in return for the freedom of 101 hostages still in Hamas custody.Â
Hirsch highlighted that beyond the release of hostages, Israel’s vision includes a demilitarized and de-radicalized Gaza, with plans for new governance. The offer, reportedly made earlier this week, has yet to receive a clear response from Hamas.
Sinwar, who is accused of masterminding the October 7 attacks in Israel, is believed to be hiding within Gaza’s extensive tunnel network. Although the safe passage offer remains on the table, sources indicate that Sinwar may prefer to stay in Gaza, believing it to be safer than seeking refuge elsewhere.
