Israel has agreed to a U.S.-backed proposal for a 60-day ceasefire and hostage exchange in Gaza, an Israeli official confirmed Wednesday.
The confirmation follows President Donald Trump’s announcement that Israel had “agreed to the necessary conditions” to finalize a ceasefire in Gaza.
“My representatives had a long and productive meeting with the Israelis today on Gaza. Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60-day ceasefire, during which time we will work with all parties to end the war,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday.
Trump urged Hamas to accept the deal “for the good of the Middle East.”
The White House did not disclose details of the proposal, but according to an Israeli official cited by Fox News, the proposed deal includes a 60-day ceasefire, with a partial Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and a significant increase in humanitarian aid. While the mediators and the U.S. would offer assurances about pursuing peace talks to end the war, Israel is not formally committing to negotiations under the current proposal, the official added.
Hamas said in a statement on Wednesday that it had received proposals from mediators and is in discussions with them to “bridge gaps” in hopes of returning to negotiations and reaching a ceasefire agreement.
Hamas has previously stated its willingness to release the remaining hostages as part of a ceasefire deal. In exchange, Hamas demands an end to the war and a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
