Iranian drones struck Kuwait’s oil headquarters, two power stations, and water desalination plants on Sunday, knocking electricity-generating units offline and threatening a country that sources roughly 90% of its drinking water from desalination facilities. No casualties were reported.
The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) confirmed fires and “significant material losses” at several of its subsidiaries following drone attacks. A separate strike ignited a fire at the Shuwaikh Oil Sector Complex, which houses KPC and the Oil Ministry’s headquarters.
Firefighting teams were deployed to contain the blazes and prevent them from spreading to adjacent facilities.
Fatima Abbas Johar Hayat, a spokesperson for Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, said the attacks caused “serious material damage” to two power and water desalination plants and forced two electricity-generating units offline.
Kuwait’s Finance Ministry confirmed a drone also struck a government office complex, causing significant material damage with no casualties.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had targeted petrochemical facilities across Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.
The strikes landed hours before OPEC+ members convened to address oil output, a session that produced an agreement in principle to increase production by 206,000 barrels a day in May, according to Reuters.
The deal remains largely symbolic while Iran continues to block the Strait of Hormuz, the waterway through which roughly 20% of the world’s crude oil typically flows.
Bahrain’s Bapco Energies reported a tank fire at a storage facility following a separate Iranian drone attack.
In Abu Dhabi, debris from air defense intercepts caused fires at the Borouge petrochemical plant, and the UAE’s official news agency WAM reported authorities responding to an incident at Khor Fakkan port on the Gulf of Oman.
Saudi Arabia’s Defense Ministry said it intercepted an Iranian cruise missile Sunday morning.
Brent crude was trading at approximately $109 a barrel on Sunday, up more than 50% since the start of the year.
