Iran has renewed threats of a “nightmare” attack on Israel in response to the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in late July. The Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Major General Hossein Salami, warned that Israel and its allies would face severe retaliation for what he described as their “wickedness.” His remarks come amid growing international concerns over Iran’s nuclear program, which has gone largely unchecked for over three years.
Iran has vowed revenge but remains vague about the timing and nature of its response. Salami stated that Israeli leaders are on edge, anticipating a “painful and different” attack. Despite the threats, Iran has been issuing similar warnings for over a month without clear action.

Israeli officials, including Nissim Vaturi of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, have expressed concern over a potential war with Hezbollah. Vaturi advocated for preemptive strikes on Hezbollah strongholds in Lebanon, warning that further delay could increase casualties.
Meanwhile, the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), warned that Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles are nearing weapons-grade levels, further raising alarms about Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. The IAEA reported that Iran’s nuclear program has been out of compliance with international agreements for over three years.
