The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, through the Central Logistics Support Development Department, is spearheading the testing of an innovative modular body armor tailored for the Navy and the engineering troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This specialized module integrates a distinctive technology that activates upon contact with water, transforming the vest into a rescue device. The development of this floating module has seen collaboration between both international and local experts. Plans are underway to extend the application of these modules across all authorized body armor variants within the Armed Forces.
The preliminary phase has seen these advanced armor samples distributed among military units for field testing. Success in this phase will pave the way for extensive laboratory research, aimed at validating the modules’ efficacy and reliability under controlled conditions.
Parallel to the advancements in modular armor, Ukraine has announced the evolution of protective gear for female servicewomen. In early January 2024, the Defense Ministry authorized the second model of women’s bulletproof vests, produced by Temp-3000. This latest iteration introduces damping cushions to facilitate a customized fit, catering to the unique anatomical needs of each wearer without compromising on ballistic protection.Â
The women’s body armor underwent a rigorous three-month evaluation, encompassing two critical stages. The initial phase focused on assessing wear comfort among military personnel, followed by a series of laboratory tests covering ballistic and non-ballistic performance, as well as the durability and functionality of materials and accessories.Â
