Humanoid robots have joined police patrols in Shenzhen, China, capturing public attention with their human-like movement. The PM01 model robots, developed by Shenzhen-based startup EngineAI, have been seen walking alongside police officers, greeting pedestrians, and responding to voice commands.
In a video that went viral on Chinese social media, the PM01 robot was observed patrolling in formation with human officers, waving to crowds, and shaking hands with pedestrians. The robots are clad in high-visibility police vests. While currently deployed in limited numbers, the robots are reportedly designed to assist officers with patrol duties, potentially easing their workload.

The PM01 robots, launched in December 2024, feature advanced motion capabilities and interactive displays. Standing 4.5 feet tall and weighing 88 pounds, the PM01 is equipped with a 320-degree rotating waist, enhancing its ability to perform complex movements.
The robot also boasts 24 degrees of freedom (DoF), including 12 DoF in joint motors, which enables fluid, human-like motion. It can walk at speeds of up to 4.5 mph and operates for up to two hours per battery charge.
The PM01 also includes a LiDAR system — a laser-based navigation tool — allowing it to map the surroundings. Its interactive display panel, inspired by Marvel’s Iron Man suit, integrates various smart control features that enhance engagement with the public.
EngineAI claims this is the first humanoid robot capable of performing a front flip, demonstrated in more viral footage. The company has also unveiled a larger model, the SE01, capable of advanced actions such as squatting, push-ups, and item retrieval.
