Hamas has directed all its governing agencies to prepare for a handover of authority to a planned Palestinian technocratic government, according to the group’s official media outlet, SAFA.
“[Hamas] has issued directives to all government agencies and institutions to be ready to hand over all areas to this body,” SAFA quoted Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem as saying. “There are instructions to facilitate the handover process in order to ensure the success of this body’s work.”
The planned government will be overseen by President Donald Trump’s proposed Board of Peace, an international body tasked with managing the government and other aspects of the ceasefire that took effect on Oct. 10, including disarming Hamas and deploying an international security force.
Members of the board must be elected by Palestinians and vetted by Israel. Its composition is expected to be announced this month.
Meanwhile, the post-ceasefire death toll in Gaza continued to rise.
Palestinian health officials said that three Palestinians were killed and nine others wounded in Israeli strikes across multiple areas of the Gaza Strip on Sunday.
