The Air Force has disciplined 15 members of Airman 1st Class Jack Teixeira’s chain of command following a security breach that allowed Teixeira to remove and leak classified information online. The investigation revealed that Teixeira was observed accessing intelligence outside his role on multiple occasions, but these incidents were not properly reported or addressed by his supervisors. Inadequate workspace inspections, inconsistent guidance on reporting security breaches, and a lack of supervision were also identified as contributing factors to the breach. Teixeira, who maintained computer systems storing sensitive data, is facing six federal criminal charges under the Espionage Act. As a result of this incident, the 102nd Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group, Teixeira’s unit, has been restricted from handling sensitive information, and senior officers, including Cols. Sean Riley and Enrique Dovalo, have been relieved of duty.
