The Saildrone Voyager, introduced in 2023, is a 10-meter (33-foot) USV designed for near-shore ocean mapping and maritime security missions. Powered primarily by wind and solar energy, the Voyager also features electric propulsion for low-wind and near-shore operations.
According to the company, the upcoming maritime mission in Danish waters involving the Saildrone Voyager, aims to enhance intelligence gathering around Northern Europe and protect the region’s critical undersea infrastructure.
“The Baltic, North Sea, and European Arctic waters are currently facing unprecedented threats,” Richard Jenkins, Saildrone founder and CEO said in a press release. “We are very excited to be partnering with the Danish armed forces to deploy Saildrone systems, to help protect Europe’s critical undersea infrastructure and increase regional security.”
The upcoming deployment of USVs comes as Denmark increases its maritime surveillance amid rising tensions in the Baltic region, particularly with Russia, following increased Russian activity around undersea cables,
The upcoming trial will be done in cooperation with the Royal Danish Navy and the Danish Ministry of Defense Acquisition and Logistics Organization.
