Due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, Christmas Eve celebrations in Bethlehem have been canceled. As a result, Manger Square, which is usually filled with festive lights and a decorated Christmas tree, was empty. Instead, the municipality has set up an art installation called “Nativity under the Rubble” to show solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza. Dozens of Palestinian security forces were present in the square.
