The bodies of six Israeli hostages recovered from Gaza earlier this week have been found to bear signs of gunshot wounds, according to initial autopsy findings released by the Israeli military and the Hostage Families Forum on Thursday. The hostages, identified as Alex Dancyg, Yagev Buchshtab, Chaim Peri, Yoram Metzger, Nadav Popplewell, and Avraham Munder, were retrieved from southern Gaza’s Khan Younis area by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) after being held captive for 321 days.

The preliminary findings, conducted by the L. Greenberg Institute of Forensic Medicine at Abu Kabir, indicate that all six men had bullet wounds, although the exact circumstances of their deaths remain unclear. The IDF has not yet determined whether the hostages were killed by their captors or if they died as a result of friendly fire during rescue operations. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided as they become available.

In addition to the hostages, four other bodies were found nearby, believed to be those of the terrorists who held the captives. Interestingly, the initial examination revealed no gunshot wounds on these bodies.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum expressed deep concern over the findings, condemning the apparent execution of the hostages. “The presence of bullets in the bodies of the late hostages is further proof of the cruelty of the terrorists who held them,” the group stated. They also criticized the Israeli government, describing the recovery of the hostages’ bodies as a failure rather than a victory, highlighting that the hostages were meant to be rescued alive, not returned in coffins.

Family members of the hostages have spoken out following the revelations, with Yagev Buchshtab’s mother, Esther Buchshtab, confirming that her son was shot dead while in captivity. Similar findings were reported regarding Yoram Metzger, though it remains unclear who fired the fatal shots.

The Israeli military and health authorities are continuing their investigation to ascertain the exact causes of death and the circumstances surrounding the hostages’ tragic end. As the forensic examination progresses, the nation and the families of the deceased await further clarification on this deeply distressing incident.
