Anduril has announced a partnership with Microsoft to integrate its Lattice platform into the U.S. Army’s Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS), a combat-ready augmented-reality headset. This collaboration aims to improve soldiers’ situational awareness by combining real-time data from multiple sources like drones and defense systems, delivering critical information directly to the IVAS display.
Anduril’s Lattice software will provide IVAS users with enhanced capabilities, including alerting soldiers to threats like drones beyond their visual range. This integration is part of a broader effort to leverage AI and autonomous systems on the battlefield.
The IVAS project, initially developed by Microsoft based on its HoloLens technology, faced early setbacks, such as reports of nausea and headaches during testing. However, Microsoft has since refined the design, earning a new contract in 2023. The U.S. Army has committed up to $21.9 billion over 10 years to continue developing the system, which is expected to undergo further testing in 2025.
