On Sunday, Hezbollah fired over 100 rockets into northern Israel, with some striking close to the city of Haifa. In response, Israel launched hundreds of airstrikes on Hezbollah targets across southern Lebanon, claiming to have destroyed thousands of rocket launchers and military positions.

According to Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency service, several rockets struck the city of Kiryat Bialik, near Haifa, injuring at least three people and setting buildings and cars ablaze. Air raid sirens were activated across northern Israel, forcing hundreds of thousands of residents to seek shelter.

The attacks extended beyond Israel and Lebanon, as air defenses intercepted two cruise missiles and two drones fired from Iraq, which were claimed by Iran-backed Iraqi militias known as the “Islamic Resistance.” The projectiles were intercepted before they could cause any damage in Israeli territory, including over the southern Golan Heights and near Israel’s Red Sea resort of Eilat.

The conflict intensified following a deadly Israeli airstrike on Friday in Beirut’s Dahiye neighborhood, a known Hezbollah stronghold. This attack killed around 50 people, including women, children, and senior Hezbollah commanders, such as Ibrahim Aqil, the leader of the group’s Radwan force. The strike reportedly targeted a meeting where plans for a large-scale cross-border infiltration into Israel’s Galilee region were being discussed.

Hezbollah’s deputy leader, Naim Qassem, declared the conflict as an “open-ended battle” with Israel, emphasizing that Hezbollah would continue its military operations in support of Gaza. He hinted at the possibility of “unexpected attacks” beyond conventional warfare.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Israel would take any measures necessary to ensure the safety and security of its citizens, stating, “No country can accept the wanton rocketing of its cities. We can’t accept it either.” He assured that Israeli forces would continue their efforts to neutralize threats from Hezbollah.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported that three people were killed and four wounded in the Israeli airstrikes near the border, though it did not clarify whether they were civilians or combatants. Funeral processions took place across Lebanon, as communities mourned the victims of recent attacks.
