The 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade’s UAV unit released a video showing Ukrainian drones targeting and setting fire to a Russian T-90M Proryv tank. This incident marks the sixth T-90 Proryv tank destroyed by the 47th Mechanized Brigade. The video captured a kamikaze drone hitting the tank’s engine compartment, disabling it, followed by another drone damaging the tank’s turret and guidance optics. Despite the tank’s advanced design, Ukrainian UAV operators have found vulnerabilities to exploit.
Moscow’s MBTs have struggled in the Ukraine conflict, with reports suggesting the loss of approximately 3,000 tanks, including many T-90 models. The T-90M, which boasts a 125mm cannon capable of firing powerful munitions and enhanced communication systems, was touted as the world’s best tank by Putin in 2023. However, recent footage shows its limitations against drone warfare, with the T-90’s turret spinning uncontrollably after being hit.

The destruction of the T-90M is part of a broader trend where both Kyiv and Moscow have suffered heavy tank losses since the conflict began in February 2022. Innovations in drone technology have played a significant role, with both sides using uncrewed aerial vehicles extensively.
The destruction of the T-90M adds to the growing list of Russian tank losses, with the International Institute for Strategic Studies and open-source intelligence tracker Oryx estimating around 3,000 MBTs lost by Moscow.
