The Al Asad Airbase in Iraq was targeted by a ballistic missile attack on January 20, 2024. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that the assault was executed by Iranian-backed militants. The base’s air defense systems managed to intercept most of the missiles, yet some struck the base. This attack resulted in a number of US personnel undergoing evaluations for traumatic brain injuries, and at least one Iraqi service member was wounded.

The exact scale of the damage and the full impact of the attack are still under assessment by defense authorities.
