Britain’s foreign intelligence service, MI6, on Friday launched a dark web platform allowing spies worldwide, particularly in Russia, to securely share sensitive information with the United Kingdom.
The site, called Silent Courier, was unveiled in Istanbul by Sir Richard Moore during his final public speech as MI6 chief. He said the initiative targets potential spies in Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and beyond.
Moore said the system is open to anyone with intelligence on terrorism, global instability, or hostile state activity.
He said spies worldwide can use the site anonymously by following instructions posted in an MI6 YouTube video.
Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said the initiative ensures the UK’s intelligence agencies remain “one step ahead of our adversaries” by using new technology to recruit in Russia and beyond.
MI6’s latest move mirrors a CIA strategy that used social media videos to attract Russian recruits.
