Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence reported a successful attack on Russia’s Morozovsk airfield in the Rostov region on August 3, resulting in the destruction of a Su-34 fighter-bomber and an ammunition depot. The strikes, which also likely damaged two additional aircraft, were observed through satellite imagery over the weekend.

Ukrainian forces used drones for the attack on Morozovsk, a strategic military airfield housing numerous Su-34 fighter bombers essential to Russia’s operations in Ukraine. The Main Military Intelligence Directorate (HUR) provided details, showing craters and scorched earth around the destroyed aircraft and the remnants of secondary detonations from the ammunition depot.

In a related offensive, Ukrainian forces targeted a key oil hub in Russia’s southern Rostov region and used U.S.-made ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile Systems) and Storm Shadow missiles to strike a fuel hub in occupied Luhansk. The attack in Luhansk involved 12 missiles, hitting fuel storage warehouses and resulting in significant damage, according to Kremlin-installed local authorities. Four of these missiles were reportedly intercepted by air defense systems.

Additionally, a massive fire broke out in the city of Azov in the Rostov region after drones crashed into an oil depot, creating a large column of black smoke. Independent Russian journalists on the Astra Telegram channel shared footage of the blaze, though no casualties were reported.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that 75 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight in various regions, including Rostov, Kursk, Belgorod, Oryol, Ryazan, and Voronezh, as well as over the Sea of Azov and Krasnodar Territory.

The Morozovsk airfield has been a frequent target of Ukrainian drone attacks. This latest operation was coordinated by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (HUR), with assistance from the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
