Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) said its forces halted a Russian advance in the Sumy region following an operation that killed at least 334 soldiers and wounded more than 550.
In a statement released on Tuesday, GUR said fighters from the Timur Special Unit “did not allow Russian forces to advance in the Sumy sector.” It added: “the intelligence operatives managed to infiltrate enemy lines, clear out Russian positions, and secure footholds.”
The operation involved coordinated efforts by multiple sub-units, including Chimera, Junger, Stuhna, Siberian Battalion, Aratta, 1514, Paragon, Art Division, First Line, Raven Group, and the 6th Special Operations Detachment.
Footage from the mission showed the use of FPV drones, artillery, grenade launchers, and small arms.

Russia has not issued any comment or confirmation regarding the reported losses.
In August 2024, Russia intensified its attacks on the Sumy front, launching frequent artillery, missile, and air strikes.
According to regional governor Oleh Hryhorov, Sumy Oblast was hit by 2,700 attacks in July alone, including more than 800 air-dropped bombs, 250 kamikaze drone strikes, and 52 missile strikes. The assaults killed 23 civilians and wounded more than 140.
