Ukraine’s elite “Ghosts” unit of the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) said Thursday it destroyed a Russian MiG-29 fighter jet at the Kacha airfield during an overnight operation in occupied Crimea.

The Soviet-era aircraft, valued at about $25 million and operated by Russian forces, was reportedly parked on the apron at the time of the strike.
GUR said the operation also targeted an Irtysh radar complex near Simferopol, reportedly damaging equipment that supports local air defense and flight control operations.
“Special units of the GUR continue to systematically weaken the air‑defense system of the occupiers over the temporarily occupied peninsula, destroying radars, anti‑aircraft systems, and now fighter aviation,” GUR said as reported by Militarnyi.
SOFX could not independently verify the claims or assess the extent of the damage from the attack.
Ukrainian forces have previously targeted Russian fighter jets in Crimea. In May 2024, a U.S.-made ATACMS missile strike on Belbek airfield damaged or destroyed MiG-31, Su-27, and MiG-29 aircraft.
Last September, Ukraine’s military intelligence service said its special forces destroyed two Russian Be-12 “Chaika” amphibious aircraft in occupied Crimea, marking the first confirmed combat loss of the Soviet-era planes.
