A recent video released by the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces reveals the destruction of a Russian TOS-1A thermobaric weapon system using a US-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS). The operation took place in a forested area of southern Ukraine, where the TOS-1A, known as a heavy flamethrower, was concealed. Drone reconnaissance facilitated the precise targeting of the weapon system. The footage, captured by a drone, displays a significant explosion and smoke following the HIMARS strike. The TOS-1A, which Russia terms “Solntsepyok,” is mounted on tanks and can launch up to 24, 220mm rockets with thermobaric or incendiary warheads. Thermobaric weapons, also referred to as vacuum bombs, are notorious for their large blast radius and potential to cause indiscriminate damage, with their use in civilian areas potentially constituting a war crime.
