Ukrainian forces struck the Afipsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region overnight Friday, marking the fourth attack on the facility in recent months as Ukraine continues its campaign against Russian energy infrastructure.
Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed the operation in a Friday social media post, stating that “units of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces, hit the facilities of the Afipsky Oil Refinery” as part of efforts to reduce Russia’s “offensive potential and complicating the supply of fuel and ammunition to the military units of the occupiers.”

Russian regional authorities reported that drone debris fell on a refinery unit, sparking a fire that covered 30 square meters before being extinguished. No casualties were reported, according to the regional crisis center.
The Afipsky refinery, located approximately 200 kilometers from the front line in southern Russia, serves as a key logistics hub for diesel fuel and aviation kerosene supplies to Russian forces. The facility accounts for just over 2% of Russia’s oil refining output, processing about 6.25 million tons of oil annually with a total capacity of 9.1 million tons per year.

This latest strike continues a pattern of Ukrainian attacks on the facility. The refinery was previously targeted on Aug. 28, Aug. 7, and in February 2025, with earlier strikes forcing the shutdown of one processing unit.
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have intercepted 55 Ukrainian drones across eight regions overnight, including three over the Krasnodar region.
Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said the strikes have “severely disrupted fuel supplies” and logistics for Moscow’s armed forces. Speaking at a Sept. 25 meeting with journalists, Syrskyi credited Ukraine’s “DeepStrike campaign” with creating a fuel crisis in Russia that directly hampers operational activity and supply lines.
