Ukraine’s riverine commando forces have been conducting daring raids across the Dnipro River, with the support and training from the Royal Navy’s Royal Marines. This training is part of a five-week program and has involved 900 Ukrainian marines, including both new recruits and experienced soldiers. The training includes various combat skills and the use of high-end weaponry provided by Western militaries. The recent success in crossing the river and breaking through Russian lines showcases the impact of this collaborative training.

Key Points:

  1. Ukrainian Commando Raids: The Ukrainian riverine commando forces have been engaging in disruptive small-boat tactics across the Dnipro River, far from the front lines, impacting Russian defenses.
  2. British Training and Equipment: The Royal Navy, specifically the Royal Marines, has trained about 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers in techniques used by NATO special forces. They have also equipped them with high-end military hardware like guided antitank weapons and surface-to-air missiles.
  3. Intensive Training Program: The five-week training course includes survival, first aid, close-quarters combat, demolition, drone reconnaissance, and unit-level planning. Approximately 900 Ukrainian marines have completed the program.
  4. Recent Success in Operations: Last week, a team of trained Ukrainian commandos crossed the river near Kherson and advanced about one kilometer, establishing a small bridgehead. This activity ties up Russian defenders, aiding Ukraine’s broader military strategies.
  5. Testimonials of Effectiveness: A Ukrainian marine has praised the intensity and value of the training, emphasizing the close involvement and guidance of British instructors in developing teamwork and specialized skills.
