Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Defense Ministry has released a video showcasing the effectiveness of its special operations unit, Kabul 9, in combating Russian forces. The unit’s notable achievements in the ongoing conflict have been highlighted in a recent report by the GUR press service, as covered by Ukrinform.
- Impressive Combat Record: Kabul 9 has successfully eliminated a significant number of Russian military assets, including 12 main battle tanks, 25 armored fighting vehicles, and numerous other equipment. The unit also played a crucial role in downing two Su-25 warplanes.
- Strategic Assistance: Beyond direct combat, Kabul 9 has detected and aided in the destruction of additional enemy assets, contributing significantly to Ukraine’s broader defense efforts.
Operational Background: Formed at the onset of the Russian invasion under GUR chief Kyrylo Budanov, Kabul 9 consists of seasoned veterans from Ukraine’s defense intelligence and armed forces. The unit has been active in various key operational zones, including the battles for Kyiv and the defense of Bakhmut.
The report also recalls Kabul 9’s participation in significant operations, such as the battle for Kyiv, where they engaged in the Hostomel and Brovary direction, and their deployment in the southern operational zone. Their involvement in the defense of Bakhmut, particularly through mortar and sniper operations, has also been noted.
