Russian Troops in ‘Penguin’ Camouflage Killed by Ukrainian Drone Strike

Ukrainian forces have eliminated at least two Russian soldiers wearing experimental “penguin” camouflage designed to evade drone detection, according to the 120th Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces.

Footage released by the brigade shows a Russian soldier clad in a white cloak with black patches being tracked by footprints in the snow before being struck by a Ukrainian drone.

“The hunt for ‘penguins’ is yielding fresh results,” Ukraine’s 120th Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defence Forces said.

The incident is among the newest tactics employed by Russian forces along the front line, intended to conceal movement in winter conditions. However, Ukrainian forces say the tactic has proved ineffective, making the wearers more visible against the open landscape.

Ukraine first reported sightings of the unusual camouflage just days ago, describing a Russian soldier “wearing a bulky white cloak with dark patches and an element resembling a penguin’s head.”
